Cloud-Based Software System and Organizational Performance of Oil and Gas Companies in South-South, Nigeria

Abstract

Today, organizations are increasingly adopting cloud-based software system to manage their workforce more efficiently. Cloud-based software system is a type of human resources management system that operate on the cloud rather than being installed on a company’s local servers. This study examined the relationship between cloud-based software systems and organizational performance. The predictor variable is cloud based software systems, and the criterion variable organizational performance was measured using productivity, operational efficiency and cost effectiveness. The study adopted the positivist philosophical paradigm and employed correlational and cross-sectional survey research designs. The population comprised ten oil companies operating in South-South states of Nigeria. Due to the manageable population size, the census sampling technique was adopted, while purposive sampling was used to select 84 managerial respondents consisting of branch HR managers, supervisors and others HR staff. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaire, while validity was confirmed by academic supervisors, reliability was confirmed using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients above 0.70. Out of 84 questionnaire administered, 74 usable copies were retrieved and use for the analysis with the aid of SPSS version 27.0. Descriptive statistics were used for preliminary analysis, while Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient and partial correlation analysis were used to test the hypotheses. Findings revealed that cloud based software system, positively and significantly enhanced organizational performance, operational efficiency, and cost effectiveness of oil and gas companies in South-South Nigeria. The study concluded that cloud based system significantly improve organizational performance. The study recommended that oil and gas companies should strengthen human resource system to improve organizational performance.
